All visits include access to a self-guided walking tour of the historic site. Guided tours with our expert docents are available on weekends and by appointment for groups.

Located in the Sierra Nevada foothills, approximately 60 miles northeast of Sacramento. Take Highway 49 north to Nevada City. Parking is available on site.
Free on-site parking available. Accessible parking spaces near the main entrance.
Nevada County Connect provides regional bus service to Nevada City. Contact us for shuttle options from downtown.
We are committed to making the Lava Cap Historical Landmark accessible to all visitors. The welcome center and main exhibit areas are wheelchair accessible. Some areas of the historic mine site involve uneven terrain — please contact us in advance so we can best accommodate your needs.
